I was asked to moderate the final conference of the project REACT – Respect and Equality: Acting and Communicating Together.
Els Keytsman, member of ECRI (European Commission against Racism and Intolerance), of Council of Europe, and Managing Co-Director of Interfederal Centre for Equal Opportunities
Louisa Klingvall, Policy Officer, Fundamental Rights Policy Unit, DG Justice and. Consumers, European Commission;
Louise Haxthausen, UNESCO Representative to the European Union and Director of the UNESCO Liaison Office in Brussels;
Maeve Patterson, Communication Officer, UNHCR’s Representation for EU affairs;
Pietro Bartolo, MEP; Massimiliano Smeriglio, MEP.
The event was opened by a lecture on the social and cultural reasons of hate speech, followed by a round table with interventions of representatives from EU institutions and international organizations (European Parliament, European Commission, Council of Europe, UNHCR, UNESCO) who will describe the main strategies to tackle this phenomenon. A debate session will give the opportunity to all participants to contribute to the discussion.
